ROTEC’s Flow Reversal RO Technology (FR-RO) to Enhance Water Reuse at Singapore’s Tuas Water Reclamation Plant

ROTEC is proud to play a key role in Singapore’s water sustainability efforts with the deployment of our revolutionary Flow Reversal Technology (FR-RO) at the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant.

Assembled, pretested, and on the way to site, our advanced system marks an impressive leap forward in water reclamation innovation. Developed for PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, this project transforms municipal wastewater into high-quality reclaimed water, known as NEWater, for Industrial and Municipal applications.

ROTEC’s Contribution: High-Efficiency Water Reuse with FR-RO

The Tuas Water Reclamation Plant will incorporate six FR-RO skids, each designed to produce 24 million liters per day (6.3 MGD), with a total treatment capacity of 144 million liters per day (37.8 MGD). These skids are engineered to ensure efficient and sustainable water reuse by minimizing waste while maintaining the highest possible recovery rates.

ROTEC has been actively involved in the design and supply of this Mega Skid, maintaining a long-term relationship with PUB and supporting the project since its pilot stage. Additionally, the system benefits from high flow, high complexity supervision powered by ROTEC software, which ensures optimal performance and reliability throughout the project’s operations.

Why Flow Reversal Technology?
Traditional reverse osmosis systems often struggle with membrane scaling and fouling, leading to operational inefficiencies and frequent cleanings. ROTEC’s FR-RO approach mitigates these challenges by periodically rotating the flow patterns, distributing the scaling burden more evenly across the system. This extends membrane lifespan, reduces chemical use and cleaning requirements, and allows for a significantly higher recovery rate compared to conventional technologies. The result is an optimized process that supports Singapore’s goal of maximizing every drop of available water.

Supporting Singapore’s Water Resilience Strategy

Singapore’s four national water strategies, local catchment water, imported water, desalinated water, and NEWater, are designed to ensure long-term water security. By expanding the capacity and efficiency of the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant, PUB is reinforcing its commitment to water reuse as a key pillar of the nation’s water strategy.

At ROTEC, we are honored to contribute our expertise to this landmark project and support PUB in its mission to develop innovative, sustainable water solutions. Our Flow Reversal Technology is designed to meet the challenges of modern wastewater treatment, delivering both environmental and economic benefits.

Looking Ahead

As construction progresses, we look forward to seeing the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant come to life and make a lasting impact on Singapore’s water future. The integration of high-recovery FR-RO technology in this project not only highlights the growing adoption of advanced water reuse technologies but also sets a new standard for sustainable municipal wastewater treatment.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue working towards a more water-secure future for Singapore and beyond.

About the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant

Singapore has long been a global leader in water management, with a comprehensive strategy focused on water conservation, efficiency, and reuse. As part of this effort, the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant is a next-generation facility designed to maximize wastewater treatment and recycling. It will be a cornerstone of Singapore’s efforts to further strengthen its water resilience while reducing reliance on imported water sources.

A key component of this initiative is the integration of high-recovery, low-waste technologies. and that’s where ROTEC’s FR-RO plays a crucial role.
