The City of San Diego is advancing toward a goal to meet nearly half of its water demand locally by 2035. As part of the city’s Pure Water San Diego Program—a transformative initiative aimed at creating a sustainable, full-cycle water system—ROTEC has been selected to demonstrate its innovative Flow Reversal reverse osmosis technology.
This multi-phase program will eventually provide 83 million gallons per day (MGD) of purified water by repurposing treated wastewater from the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant. ROTEC’s Flow Reversal technology, among others in a four-stage evaluation, will be tested to maximize recovery rates (up to 95%) and minimize both energy and chemical usage. This initiative builds on ROTEC’s successful collaboration with Brown & Caldwell at Santa Monica’s Arcadia water treatment facility.
Bruce Alderman, CEO of ROTEC USA, noted: “We commend the City of San Diego’s efforts to establish a secure, sustainable local water supply by 2035. Flow Reversal’s performance and life cycle benefits offer an optimal solution for high recovery reverse osmosis systems.”
